Doctors Hospital performs the first Optical Coherence Tomography procedure in Mexico.

In the Hybrid Robotic Room of the Hemodynamics department of DOCTORS HOSPITAL, Dr. Rodrigo García Martínez, an interventional cardiologist, performed the first Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) procedure in our country.

For this procedure, the C7-XR OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) equipment from the company St. Jude Medical was used, the first equipment of this state-of-the-art technology to be installed in Mexico for the diagnosis and treatment of intravascular problems by AVANT MEDICAL. OCT technology has been applied for one year in the Netherlands and Belgium.

It uses the reflection of light waves to enhance the image of the coronaries and blood vessels with all their microscopic details.

The equipment offers an optical imaging modality that uses infrared light to create high-resolution images of tissue microstructures with important characteristics:

• Resolution at the micrometer level
• Sub-surface image
• High contrast fabric
• Safe, non-ionizing radiation

Optical Coherence Tomography is used to streamline interventional cardiovascular procedures (angioplasties and stent implants), complementing coronary ultrasound.

It can perform a 5-centimeter segment artery scan in less than 3 seconds and produces a much clearer and easier to understand 3D view of vessel morphology and plate composition, aiding planning and optimizing the treatment. Specialists will have a rapid, safe and confident assessment with OCT, as it produces incredibly detailed and clear high-resolution images, offering an unprecedented view of the coronary lumen and its morphology. It is the fastest frequency acquisition and domain frequency technology with no loss of quality.
